Lisa Dimeo, of Gastonia, had never flown in a plane before. She had also never spent the night away from her husband, Nick, who she married 23 years ago. However, all of that changed in September when she was picked up to attend an all-expenses paid trip to Clearwater, Fla.
Dimeo was chosen to take part in a Nutrisystem photo shoot for promotional materials, after having been on the diet since January.
“After reaching my 30s, I started gaining weight,” she said. “I tried many diets and exercises to lose the pounds, but nothing worked. I finally got tired of hiding behind big clothes and decided to buy into a diet.”
Dimeo started out with the one week box plan from Wal-Mart. After three days, she said she felt better and had more energy. After losing six pounds in the first week and 3 pounds the second week, she knew she had found the right diet for her. After four weeks on Nutrisystem, she started having her meals delivered straight to her house.
“It was like having my own personal chef for every meal,” she said. “Even dessert.”
Surpassing her personal goal of losing 30 lbs. after six months on Nutrisystem, Dimeo lost 20 additional pounds in the following two months.
“Once I joined Nutrisystem, I was encouraged to keep a journal and photos of my progress to share my success,” she said. “In February, I entered my story and on Aug. 1, I received an email letting me know that I have been chosen for the trip to Clear Water.”
During her trip, Dimeo was taken to a production studio where she had wardrobe fittings, make-up artists and stylists. She got to do photo shoots and film commercials, too.
“I felt like a star,” she said. “A black town car was waiting on me at the airport in Tampa when I got there.”
While in Clearwater, Dimeo said it was easy to connect with the 15 other men and women who were there to share their stories, too.
“We connected immediately, as if we had been friends forever,” she said. “We talked a lot about our families at home. We shared ideas, recipes and stories, too.”
Dimeo admitted there were lots of laughs and even a few tears.
“I’m still in shock I was even chosen,” she said. “This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Remembering what it was like to be frustrated with her weight, Dimeo says you have stay positive.
“Keeping a positive attitude is the most important part,” she said.
“Eat small portions and refuse seconds,” she offered. “Drink lots of water, too.”
And as for those commercials? Keep an eye out for her.
“People tell me I should be in commercials,” she said. “I laugh, because there is a chance I will be. If I am … it will be just as much of a surprise for me as it will be for them.”
